Michael Dowdle was convicted for the murder of his wife Ellen Dowdle and sentenced to death.

He cut her throat.

Ellen Dowdle had left Michael Dowdle due to his quarrelsome and brutal behaviour and Michael Dowdle had leter gone to plead with him to come back. However, she refused and they had a quarrel during which he cut her throat.
