William James Bolton was convicted of the murder of his girlfriend Jane Elizabeth Allen and sentenced to death.

He stabbed her to death on 18 October 1902 at 10 Andrew Marvel Terrace, Campbell Street in Hull. It was said that he had stabbed her three times and that any one of the stab wounds could have caused her death.

William Bolton was married but had been seeing Jane Allen. However, his wife left him but she had also been to see Jane Allen and made a scene.

When William Bolton went to see Jane Allen she told him that she didn't think he should come around anymore but he eventually convinced her to let him stay the night.

At 8.30am a lodger heard screaming and heard Jane Allen saying 'Oh Bill, don't'. When the lodger ran upstairs she saw Jane Allen lying on the bed with stab wounds. William Bolton had also attempted to cut his own throat.

The police were called and Jane Allen was found to be dead.

He was executed at Hull Prison on the morning of Tuesday 23 December 1902
