Friday, 24 August 1781  (Exeter Flying Post)

John Andrews guilty of stealing 3 steers (valued at £18) and 2 heifers (valued at £12), the property of Gilbert Stephens.  Ordered that his body be hanged in chains on Dartmoor near Quinabridge in the parish of Widecombe in the Moor.  Unlikely to have been hanged in chains as there is an entry in St Sidwell, Exeter Burial Register as to his burial on 24th August.
