John Butcher found guilty on an indictment for stealing a bay gelding (valued at £3), the property of Joseph Gibling, in the parish of Braintree on 21st July 1767.  A reprieve was expected and the execution was delayed until the last possible moment. The reprieve arriving too late to prevent it.
