John Webborn in the parish of Rhosili from 30 October 1798 assaulted his apprentice, William Thomas, aged 8, by beating, wounding with evil intent, neglecting him, refusing him treatment and giving him insufficient victuals so that on 28 January 1799 he died (WALES 4/630/3).

Hereford Journal Wednesday 10 April On Friday se'nnight at Little Heath, Cardiff was executed John Webborn (29) for the murder of William Thomas (8) whom he took as a servant and frequently beat with the butt end of a whip which had a brass knob or handle.  The boy was entirely bruised from head to foot and when laid out had 99 wounds and 54 contusions.
