George James Newland murdered Henry John Tandy 65 who he battered to death at Grosvenor Road, Orsett, Essex on 30 May 1953.

Henry Tandy was found dead in his bungalow along with his wife who also had serious injuries.

They both had serious head injuries thought to have bene caused by a heavy instrument and his wife, who was found on her bed, was taken to Tilbury Hospital.

George Newland was later arrested and confessed to Henry Tandy's murder saying that he attacked them with a hammer after getting a cosh boy picture into his head and being desperate for money for a new suit.
