Philip Henry murdered Flora Jane Gilligan 76 who he battered and strangled at 80 Diamond Street, York on 10 March 1953.

Flora Gilligan was found naked in her back garden.

During the trial the jury made the unusual request to visit the house> The judge said that it was an unusual request and would consider it. 5 minutes later a bus was ready outside to take the jury to the scene of the murder.

Philip Henry had assaulted Flora Gilligan in her bedroom and then thrown her out of the window. They found Philip Henry's fingerprints and shoe prints at the scene of the crime as well as a wooden splinter from the window in his clothing.
