Joseph Varnfield, aged 23/25, found guilty on an indictment for a burglary in the dwelling house of Thomas Newland in the parish of Findon on 21st November 1783:  stealing therefrom 3 pounds of pickled pork (valued at 12d), piece of foreign silver, called a dollar with a value of 4/- and a Promissory Note for £10 on the Chichester Bank.
