John Hodgson was indicted for the poisoning and killing of Isabell, wife of Edward Wearing, of Preston Richard (sic), by giving her a mixture of Mercury and Sugar on the 29th March 1753 of which she died the following day. (ASSI 44/68).

He was ordered for execution on Friday 7 September.      

In Jackson’s Oxford Journal his execution is dated to Friday, 14 September
