John Murphy guilty of being found at large in the Kingdom having been tried at the Old Bailey on 10^th December 1784 for stealing a watch (valued at 10), a steel watch chain (valued at 3/-) and a brass watch key (valued at 2d) from the person; found guilty and sentenced to be transported.

The Worcester Journal gives him as Thomas Johnson. On the Assizes Calendar the entry for John Murphy is followed by an entry reading “The same John Murphy as Thomas Johnson (otherwise John Murphy) guilty of the stealing a Bill of Exchange for £18.15/- secretly from the person of Stephen Jennings.”
