Christopher Jackson murdered his aunt Harriet May Ferris Linney 62 by battering her to death at 1 Hetton Street, Sunderland on 30 June 1936.

Christopher Jackson lived in lodgings at Chester-Ie-Street, County Durham and had travelled to 10 miles to Sunderland to see his aunt Harriet Linney to borrow money from her. She was a street bookmaker and had lent him money before. When he got there he beat her to death with a bottle and stole a large amount of small change. When he returned he repaid his debts but police found about £9 in silver in a suitcase.

In court Christopher Jackson said that when he got there he had asked her for some money but that she had refused and called him names causing him to loose his temper as she attacked him and tried to push him out of her house.
