Walter Worthington murdered Sybil Emily Worthington 28 at The Meads, Broughton, near St Ives, Huntingdon on 9 March 1935. He shot her in the left breast with a double barrelled shotgun.

Walter Worthington was a poultry farmer. He said the gun went off accidently but the prosecution said he shot her deliberatly because he was jealous of her.

They had married in 1932 but he had begun to think that she was being unfaithful to him. Sybil Worthington was his second wife. His first wife died some years before after giving him 13 children, 2 of whom witnessed the murder.
