Jean Vaquier was convicted of the murder of 38-year-old Alfred George Poynter Jones and sentenced to death.

He poisoned him with strychnine at the Blue Anchor Hotel, Byfleet, Surrey on 29 March 1924.

Alfred Jones had been the husband of Jean Vaquier's mistress.

Jean Vaquier had been a French hotel wireless operator and spoke hardly any English.
