John Griffiths murdered hi ex-girlfriend Catherine Garrity 17 who he strangled at Shaw, near Oldham on 19 December 1905.
They had been dating for a while but Catherine Garrity broke off their relationship after John Griffiths beat her and also in another incident beat a man who had stopped to talk to her.
John Griffiths and Catherine Garrity were seen talking together in the morning of 19 December after which she was later found dead. Shoeprints found nearby matched John Griffiths.
