James Tooth murdered George Stock 17 at Marine Barracks, Chatham whose throat he cut. George Stock was a drummer boy and they were both in the 33d Company of the Chatham Division of the Royal Marines.

James Tooth had been in the army for 22 years but had been demoted after being drunk in the barracks. He had tried to regain his rank but he was later suspected of stealing a ring and when he realised he wasnt going to restore his rank he got drunk. The following morning her saw George Stock who had been the cause of him being blamed for the stolen ring and slit his throat.
