Joan Roath was convicted of murder of John Bysshopp by witchcraft and sentenced to hang. Execution not confirmed.

She lived in Great Bentley and was indicted for bewitching three cows to death (£12) on 20 June 1603, property of John Blackborne.

On 10 December 1599 at Great Bentley she bewitched John Bysshopp so that he languished until 28 February 1601 and then died.
